Morgue is a local-first design-inspiration manager. The Morgue browser extension sends data only to the Morgue desktop app on your own computer (via http://localhost:57432). It does not send your data to us, to our servers, or to any third party. There is no analytics, tracking, advertising, or account.
What the extension accesses
When you click Save (or use the right-click menu / keyboard shortcut), the extension reads, for the current tab only:
- A screenshot of the visible page (website content)
- The page’s URL and title (web history / associated data)
- The fonts used on the page — font family, weight, and size read from the page’s styles when you open the extension or use the font inspector (website content). This stays on your machine; only the font names you choose are saved to your local library
- Any name, tags, or folder you type into the popup
It also stores one preference — your light/dark theme choice for the popup — using the browser’s local storage (chrome.storage.local).
The extension does not read your browsing history, other tabs, passwords, form data, cookies, or any personal or financial information.
Where your data goes
All captured data is transmitted only to the Morgue desktop app on the same computer, over a local connection (localhost), and stored in your local Morgue library on your device. Nothing is uploaded to the internet by the extension.
Optional AI features
If you enable AI suggestions, the Morgue desktop app (not the extension) may send the captured screenshot to an AI provider you choose (e.g. Anthropic), using an API key you provide and store in the desktop app. This only happens when you explicitly request a suggestion. The extension itself never contacts any AI service and never handles your API key.
Data sharing & selling
We do not sell or transfer your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising, creditworthiness, or any purpose unrelated to the extension’s single purpose (saving pages into your local Morgue library).
Data retention & deletion
Saved items live in your local Morgue library and are fully under your control — delete them in the app at any time. Uninstalling the extension removes its stored theme preference. We hold no copy of your data because we never receive it.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new date.
